See others’ perspectives to bring them around to new point of view.

The Details

Persuasion is the act of identifying an opportunity for improvement and effectively conveying that idea in a conversation, presentation, or through written communication, such as a document or Slack message.

Persuasion has many benefits. If we want to improve anything, whether it’s a process, a project,  the health of the organization, we have to be open to persuading others and being persuaded ourselves. Our workshop provides participants with communication tools to do just that.

During this 90-minute workshop, participants will develop a persuasive idea, practice saying it aloud, and get feedback from colleagues on how to improve. The impact is a shared vocabulary to be more intentional and effective when persuading each other.

Here are three elements of persuasive communication that we will focus on:

  • Start with Audience - Learn key questions to more deeply understand your audience’s perspective. Then, discuss these questions with your specific audience in mind.

  • Connect the Dots - Clarity is key for persuasion. Practice a framework: Challenge, Solutions, Benefit. This framework ensures the audience understands the context, possible options to move forward, and the benefits to all key stakeholders.

  • Evolve the Idea - As these persuasion conversations play out, how do you stay in the moment and stay open? How can you listen to understand versus listen to respond? If we open the conversation to collaboration, we might end up with an even better idea.

“I really enjoyed learning about ‘weak language' as well as using Post-it notes placed around a room to work on eye contact.”
